
POTTSTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT
CIVILIAN POLICE ACADEMY*
The Pottstown Police Department sponsors it's Civilian Police Academy* at least once a year. The academy is designed to give members of the community a greater understanding of the Pottstown Police Department and the role that it's members play in our community. Additionally, students learn how they can assist the police in making our community a safer place. The academy, when in session, meets once a week (Tuesday evenings) for two hours, beginning at 6:00 PM, at the Pottstown Police Station. Academy classes are open to adults 18 years of age and older.* (Note: For Middle School aged individuals who wish to participate, PPD hosts a Junior Police Academy.)
The following topics are discussed and explored during Academy sessions:
Traffic Safety, Narcotics Investigations and Identification, Juvenile Investigations, K-9, CMERT (commonly referred to as a "SWAT" team), the DARE Program, and Crime Scene Investigations. Each topic is instructed by personnel trained specifically in their respective fields.
Attendees witness various demonstrations and participate in scenarios, to include traffic stops and response to emergency calls.

*Note: The Pottstown Police Department Civilian Police Academy is designed to educate the public on the role of the police in our community and how the public can assist the police in reducing crime, helping to make a safer community. The Academy is not designed to train attendee's on how to become a police officer nor does attendance lead to certification as a police officer. Additionally, the Pottstown Police Department reserves the right to refuse to allow an applicant to participate based upon the applicants criminal history and/or character.
